I probably shouldn’t have gone, but I had to. I went to PAWS tonight because I fell in love with one of the dogs on their Web site, Nickleby. My roommate and her dog even came to meet him, but unfortunately the two dogs didn’t get along. So I’m a big bummed tonight, and without further ado, I bring you what I Didn’t Read While Hard At Work (but wanted to!) today!

1. Research shows fastest-growing businesses pile on to social web by Mark Schaefer — I had to include this post first because this is definitely something that anyone in social media is curious about. This doesn’t prove that social media will help you grow, but it does show that those who are growing the fastest are finding value in social media. This is definitely a must-read and something we should all be thinking about.
2. The Importance of Social Media Measurement by Chris Riley — You know why I loved this one! Just read the title. This is a great look at why social media measurement is increasingly important, just in case you (or your boss!) still needs some convincing. I recommend you share this with anyone who isn’t yet measuring their online efforts.
3. Two great series: Running a social media program and Social media measurement by Gemma Went — I thought it would be nice to include a blog post that also shares lists of posts. Also, these series both seem incredibly awesome and helpful, so I’d recommend checking them out. Yay lists!
4. Successful Social Media: Measurement by Tara Deda — This is an awesome video interview with Angela Sinickas, President of Sinickas Communications, about measurement in social media. I like this because it has a bit of a broader focus on Web 2.0.
5. Five Categories of Social Media Measurementf by Nichole Kelly — I like this. I know it’s ridiculous to group all measurement for social media into five categories, but I love the organization. It’s a great start and framework for measuring. Just remember this is not hard and fast!
6. Discussing Social Media Measurement with My Students: Getting Down to Basics by Michael Netzley — Yes! A professor who is looking at social media in the classroom, and focusing on measurement. I know I sound like a bit of a broken record, but this is just incredible!
7. Why You Need a Strategy for Social Media from eMarketer — Now that social media is becoming more and more the norm for businesses, there needs to be more understanding about how to strategize. Just because it’s easy to set up a Facebook account and start using it, that doesn’t mean you should jump right in without any plan. I lurked on Twitter for months before I created my official account! Have a plan, read this post!
And with that, I’ll leave y’all for the night. I’m gonna grieve a bit for my almost-puppy.
